We have sprouts!

It was so exciting when we went down to the basement this morning to check and water our babies that we noticed we have some broccoli sprouting. So that was 5 days from planting (February 21, 2020) until we see sprouts coming up from 4 of our 6 broccoli pots!

I haven't noticed any pepper or celery sprouts yet. So far that is all we have planted. On March 3rd, I believe, we will be starting some more seeds and probably doing some more peppers, tomatoes and broccoli then as well.

It never ceases to amaze me when we succeed in helping something to grow! I'm even more amazed when we're able to reap some reward at harvest time!

We're playing with the idea of how many raised beds we can really manage to make this year and afford to fill with good soil as the soil in our yard is not incredibly healthy.

The happiest, healthiest plant we grew last season was out apple mint that absolutely THRIVED in the raised garden at the front of our house. Compared to apple mint, the rest of our plants were absolutely MISERABLE. We want our plants to be happy and healthy so the idea of raised beds is beginning to grow on us. Unfortunately we do need to wait until the beginning of April before we can get the loam/compost and sharp sand we need. Until then we can take the applet wood we have and my husband can begin working on turning them into raised bed frames.

I wanted to make then 18" deep but we compromised at 12" deep so as to save a few dollars filling boxes and making it possible to maybe fill 1 or 2 more beds than we would have been able to.

Financials: The pallet wood we have was absolutely free so there is no added cost there.
