Cardamom
(Elettaria cardamomum)

Parts Used: Seeds (stored in the pod is best as they quickly lose flavor once removed and ground. Though admittedly it's easier to buy it already ground if you'll use it quickly).

Key Components: Volatile oil (up to 4% including terpineol, cineole, limonene, sabinene, pinene).

Preparations & dosage: Infusion: 1 teaspoon (2-3 pods) crushed seeds & pods in 1 cup just boiled water steeped covered for 10-15  minutes. 

Actions:

Foundational: Aromatic. Stimulant.
Primary: Carminative. Sialagogue. Orexigenic (appetite stimulant)

Secondary:

Uses: 

A culinary herb. 

Stimulates the appetite and the flow of saliva. 

Often combined with purgatives as a carminative agent. To treat flatulence or loss of appetite, drink 1 cup about 1/2 hour before a meal. 

Relieves griping pains.
