Ladys Mantle
(Alchemilla vulgaris; A. xanthochlora)

Parts Used: Aerial parts, mostly leaf.
Key Components: Tannins. Bitter principle. Trace essential oil. Salicylic acid.
Preparations & dosage: Infusion: Poultice applied to sore, lax breasts or wounds). Tincture: Tinctured fresh 1:2 in 40% alcohol.
Actions:
Foundational: Astringent. Bitter.
Primary: Diuretic. Emmenagogue. Vulnerary.
Secondary: Tonic.
Uses:
Tightens and tones damp, lax, weak, leaking swollen tissues.
Dampness and lax tissues of the uterus and vagina. Think in terms of excess. When there is an excess of fluids. Excessive menstrual bleeding or menstrual discharge. Also helpful in addressing fibroids and endometriosis.
Postpartum astringent. Indicated for general recovery to help tone and return the uterus to almost normal sooner. As it is an astringent it is useful for any kind of prolapse or hemorrhoids. After labor as a sitz bath to help heal tears hemorrhoids.
While it addresses excessive bleeding it can at the same time stimulate delayed or absent menstruation, regulating the cycle.
Can even help tone and firm breast tissue after time nursing has left them lax. Can take internally and/or apply formentations or poultices.
Excessive menopausal bleeding and to generally aid in the transition from mother to crone.
Heals wounds. Drys them up. Tones the tissues and relieves inflammation. It can also help address infections. Healing canker sores (Study was done with an extract in glycerin.)
Important for emotional support after any kind of physical, mental or emotional trauma, particularly after miscarriage, abortion, surgery, ruptured ovarian cysts, or PID (pelvic inflammatory disease).
Combines well with: Plantain. Yarrow. Calendula.
